Acupuncture has its roots in ancient China and is thousands of years old. It reached national awareness in the United States in 1971.
Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in a wide variety of painful conditions such as migraine headaches, tendonitis, and arthritis as well as conditions that are not pain related like nausea and sinusitis.
Early acupuncturists theorized an energy network in the body called meridians. They believed that stimulating acupuncture points is a way of balancing this energy. Western medical research has not only shown the safety and effectiveness of acupuncture, but how it controls pain and aids in healing.
Needles used in our clinic are sterile and disposable. They are about as thick as a human hair, far thinner than needles used in Western medicine. As a result, most people feel little or no discomfort during treatment. Although most acupuncture is done with needles, there are also other ways of stimulating acupuncture points without needles, such as pressure, electricity and heat among others.
